Fun Dog Show

Easter Monday finally saw some sunshine in the morning for our fun dog show. There were a variety of classes for everyone, from Precious Puppy, Fabulous Fella all the way through to My Dog’s Got Talent.

We welcomed an extraordinary turnout of people with their beloved canine friends, all ready for a day full of fun competitions.

Dunrunnin retired greyhound rehoming kennels, who are situated just a short distance down the road from Speedgate, came along for the day to not only support the event, but to also talk to people about the greyhounds and to give a bit more insight as to what happens at the kennels and what wonderful pets these lovely dogs make after they have retired from racing.

Our first class of the day was the Precious Puppy class, and it had a huge number of entries. All these gorgeous young dogs made judging very difficult, so once the final six were picked out from the line up, we asked for the spectator’s participation with the final judging. Each of the final six puppies were called forward and the spectator’s applauded each one. The one with the biggest round of applause was then crowned our winner.

All the other classes were equally as well subscribed, and everyone was a great sport. The Best Rescue class is always one that pulls at your heart strings. Listening to each dog’s story of how they came to meet their now and forever owners, was very moving at times. But it also showed that time, patience, and lots of love can rebuild these gorgeous animals into trusting people once again.

By lunchtime the weather had taken a horrid turn, but the remaining hardened dog owners stuck it out whilst we all got completely soaked. Not to be put off, the classes continued and we finally concluded the day with the Musical Sit class, which proved to very funny and competitive.

Each of our winners from classes 1 – 9 were invited to take part in our Best and Reserve Best in Show class. This class had been very generously sponsored by The Kitchen On The Farm and Country Styles Dog Grooming. It was our Super Senior winner who was crowned as our Best in Show and our Best Rescue winner took the reserve spot.

A big thank you also goes to Kong, Burns Pet Food and Carnilove for their very generous donations of toys and treats for all our deserving winners.

Even though the weather had not been kind to us all day, we had so much fun meeting all our competitors and their gorgeous canine companions. There were so many different breeds and types of dogs and every one of them was so impeccably well behaved throughout the day. We look forward to hopefully seeing you at our future fun events.
