Speedgate’s Unaffiliated Show Jumping

Saturday 4th May 2024

Our second Unaffiliated Show Jumping event took place on Saturday 4th May and the sun had finally decided to show its face!

As always, it was lovely to see familiar faces back to compete with us, as well as getting to meet some very new competitors.

After the clear rounds had been jumped, we were ready to get the classes started. The Super Mini class was our first class of the day and our first rider to start the competition was Ayla Karahan and her lovely pony, Aqua. They both achieved a lovely round, but 4 faults prevented them from going into the jump off. Next up was Olivia Hammond and Dave, and their round finished with just eight faults. Last to go in the class was another new rider to our competitions, Samantha Titterrell and the lovely Boycie, who both navigated a lovely double clear to take the first victory of the day.

Next, we had the Mini class, and it was Ayla Karahan and Aqua who were our first combination to get into the jump off part of the class. Sadly, they did pick up four faults in the jump off. The final combination for this class was another new competitor, Bella Fasting and her lovely grey horse, Donte. This pair jumped a lovely double clear and that was enough for them to clinch the second win of the day.

Our first rider in the Novice class, was Sienna Bruniges and the gorgeous Teddy. This partnership is growing in confidence all the time and although there was a slight navigation problem in the jump off, they still produced a lovely double clear. The skinny fence, that was positioned in the early part of the course, was catching a few of our riders out throughout the class, so it was towards the end of the class that another solid partnership in the form of Bethany Bell and Secret entered the arena. With a well ridden double clear in a very good time, they became our novice winners.

The Intermediate class saw only one rider make it into the jump off part of the course. This was Pebbles Jackson and her second ride of the day, Fred. They jumped a lovely double clear in a very good time and became our fourth winner of the day.

In the small open class it was Gaby Howard and the very striking Gaston that were first to go. The pair produced a beautiful double clear and eventually became our final winners of the day. Pebbles Jackson and Fred also made it to the jump off, and although their time was slightly faster than Gaby’s they sadly had the last fence down, so had to settle for second place.

Sadly, no one presented themselves competitively for the Open class.

Congratulations to all our deserving winners:

Super Mini – Samantha Titterrell and Boycie

Mini – Bella Fasting and Donte

Novice – Bethany Bell and Secret

Intermediate – Pebbles Jackson and Fred

Small Open – Gaby Howard and Gaston

We do pride ourselves on a being an encouraging show to help build the confidence of our riders. It may be their first competition or that they have possibly lost their way a little, so we take the time to make sure that the riders come away with a positive experience.

Thank you to everyone that came to compete and support the show and we look forward to hopefully seeing you at our next Show Jumping event on Saturday 8th June.

All entries can be made on our on-line entry provider, Horse Monkey.

Last year, we saw some amazing riders who had all started the season with personal goals to try and achieve. They all worked extremely hard throughout the season, and each of them reached their goals and much more. To recognise how hard they had worked, they were all awarded a “Speedgate Achiever Award” rosette. So once again this year we will be looking out for our “Speedgate Achiever” riders. Could you become one of them at the end of the season?
