Speedgate’s Unaffiliated Show Jumping

Saturday 6th April saw the first of our Unaffiliated Show Jumping events of the year take place.

Although it was a little windy, it was dry and sunny, and we were all ready for a day of competition. As always, it was lovely to see familiar faces return to compete with us, as well as getting to meet some very new competitors.

New for this year, we have introduced the Super Mini class and the first rider to get this class underway was Rosa Dean and her lovely pony, Rhulan May. They both achieved a lovely double clear round. Next up was Olivia Hammond and Dave, and their double clear enabled them to take the first victory of the day.

The next class was the Mini class, and it was our second rider, Jessica Madden and Brieryhill McKenzie who set an early lead. With more double clears to follow, it proved that her jump off round was quick and accurate, as no one could get close to her time, so she became our second winner of the day.

Another quick and accurate double clear was achieved in the Novice class by the consistent partnership of Maceykate Whiskin and Dolly. With their time being over 10 seconds faster than the second placed rider, it was another very well-deserved win for them.

The Intermediate class saw only one double clear produced from the start list. This double clear was achieved by Eva Matthews, who steered the talented Iceford King to the fourth top spot of the day.

Emily Stedman and Hector were the only combination forward for the Open class. Again, they navigated the course to complete a double clear round, and the final win of the day.

Congratulations to all our deserving winners:

Super Mini – Rosa Dean and Rhulan May

Mini – Jessica Madden and Brieryhill McKenzie

Novice – Maceykate Whiskin and Dolly

Intermediate – Eva Matthews and Iceford King

Small Open – Emily Stedman and Hector

We do pride ourselves on a being an encouraging show to help build the confidence of our riders. It may be their first competition or that they have possibly lost their way a little, so we take the time to make sure that the riders come away with a positive experience.

Thank you to everyone that came to compete and support the show and we look forward to hopefully seeing you at our next Show Jumping event on Saturday 4th May.

All entries can be made on our on-line entry provider, Horse Monkey.

Last year, we saw some amazing riders who had all started the season with personal goals to try and achieve. They all worked extremely hard throughout the season, and each of them reached their goals and much more. To recognise how hard they had worked, they were all awarded a “Speedgate Achiever Award” rosette. So once again this year we will be looking out for our “Speedgate Achiever” riders. Could you become one of them at the end of the season?
